in my messy orchid house! A gift from my sister (she bought two pots from Borneo Highlands). I do not know if it's a lily or an amaryllis, I know not the difference so expert gardeners out there, help me out! :-)
The flowers are huge, I just wonder if they're sold just for Chinese New Year display, then fade or die off after that lol, let's hope not.
Look who what showed up on our doorstep! When I got back from dinner tonight, found this little rhinoceros beetle lying on the porch on the pet hair covered foot mat!
As a defence mechanism, the beetle gives off a hissing noise (sounds like air being let out of its abdomen) to scare off predators when disturbed, it also raises itself up on its legs to appear more menacing. My cat gave it a sniff then jumped away when the beetle hissed! Poor cat was terrified of it!
By the way, the photo above is a close crop of the upper “horn”. Took the photo with a tiny macro lens attachment (for camera phones) on my Sony X10 Mini Pro. Not bad for a cheap “toy”, ya?
Pizza and spaghetti earlier and now buttermilk chicken with rice. Have to walk an extra mile or two this week to burn it all off!
