As long as one’s relatively fit, it should be an easy walk up the small mountain.

The trail is clean and quite well maintained.

Bung Jagoi - abandoned village near the summit. There aren’t a lot of houses here, many have been abandoned and some are in a state of disrepair. But the clean surroundings and some planted vegetables suggested the owners still come up here from time to time to check on their properties.

There is one family still staying in this village. The lady whom we met said most visitors were local who walked up the mountain as a form of exercise.

It’s been about 2.5 years since I was last here, good to visit this village again.

Ba’kalalan rice fields

Bakalalan_rice_field_sawah_padi_7

Can’t wait to return to the Kelabit highlands next year! Very scenic place. This time, we’re going earlier in the year so hopefully the scenery will be different. Perhaps different species of plants in flower too.

These photos were taken last year when we attempted to climb Mount Murud but only made it to Church Camp due to bad weather. Still, we had a wonderful time and I enjoyed every single minute of my time spent in the highlands.

If you’re thinking about visiting Bakalalan, don’t think, just go! :)

A good dose of Vitamin D!

Scenic: View of surrounding hills

Today I nearly passed out while walking in the hot sun... it was SO HOT I could feel my brains frying inside my head. Towel and cap did no good. Had to rest several times in what little shade I could find along the open track. Scenic views along the way but I do wonder why I punish myself so sometimes…

On the bright side, I was down with the flu last night but after much sweating and sun exposure today, I feel a lot better. Heading out again tomorrow, hope to find some nice waterfalls!

Was there not too long ago, haven’t blogged about it, took tons of photos, gorgeous weather so gorgeous views. This was a fun trip, heading back there again soon for another challenging climb up a different mountain…

Mulu

Gunung_Mulu

Hmm… have I written about my 2009 trip to Mulu?? I’ve lost track of what I’ve written about! Will have to search my entries via blogger dashboard. Anyway, I was in Mulu again this year, this time we climbed Mount Mulu which was one of the longest and toughest treks I’ve ever done so far. It was a lot of fun though, for me at least, I enjoyed the trek especially from camp 3 to the summit. Walking through the mossy forest close to the summit was such an amazing and relaxing experience. We had such good weather the 5 days we did the climb too!

Labour day weekend

Long labour day weekend! Happy holiday! This picture was taken from the viewpoint at Mount Serapi. I still cant beat my own best time of reaching the top in 1.5 hours without stopping for photos. Total ascent is about 700m over a distance of about 4km.

I've been up here several times now but this is only the second time i've been fortunate enough to get a clear view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Usually it's just clouds and mist all around!
